Tempe, Ariz. – October 15, 2014 – StandardAero’s European Service Center (ESC), located in Tilburg, Netherlands, has been granted an important and new status. Termed as “Known Consignor” by the European Union, this authorization allows the company on behalf of customers to expedite air freight for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul shipments around the world giving customers the opportunity to use Tilburg as an entry point.
Known Consignor is a new regulation that was passed in April, 2013 and has become active in the European Union. Being a Known Consignor means that all airfreight will be subject to additional safety inspections and all items of cargo and all mail consignments are subjected to security checks before they are loaded onto the aircraft. As a result, airlines only accept items of cargo and mail consignments for carriage if the airline itself or another Known Consignor has carried out the necessary security check.
In order to be approved as a Known Consignor, organizations/companies need to ensure that they meet the standards required for the shipping of Secure for Passenger Aircraft (SPX) cargo and then make an application to the National Border Police for the locations for which Known Consignor status is being sought.
StandardAero’s ESC was granted Known Consigner authorization in September, after a successful audit by the National Border Police and is entered in the European Database. This means that every shipment leaving the ESC/Tilburg facility is identified as secured airfreight and will have no delays or additional inspections during the logistic process until the end destination — preventing lead-time interruptions and extra shipping costs.
“Our Known Consignor status is unique for the MRO industry and it gives our company the ability to feely move shipments via airfreight from Europe to any location in the world,” said Gerard Janssen, StandardAero ESC Site Leader. “It virtually brings the airport closer to our facilities and will help both our commercial and military customers to receive very quick turnaround times, reduce delays and customs restrictions and provide best-in-class services.”
StandardAero’s ESC represents the company’s very important and strategic footprint in the European marketplace and serves customers as a central point “One Stop Shop” at a central and convenient location in the region.
