Landmark Aviation Set to Deliver First of Two Hawker 800 Air Ambulances to Airmed International

NBAA, Orlando, Landmark Aviation’s Springfield, Ill., service center has completed modifying and is preparing to deliver the first of two new Raytheon Hawker 800 business jets it has been contracted to outfit as critical care air ambulances for AirMed International of Birmingham, Ala.

“We consider it both a privilege and a very serious matter to be selected to modify AirMed’s aircraft into air ambulances,” said Landmark’s President Shawn Vick. “We know that the well-being of patients can be impacted by the quality of our workmanship, so we work very closely with AirMed to ensure their expectations are met.” Landmark has also provided engine maintenance for AirMed since 2003, Vick said.

Jeff Tolbert, Founder and Chief Executive officer of AirMed International, said, “AirMed is committed to providing unsurpassed medical care to the patients we transport, and we look for that same attention to quality and detail from the people we choose to modify our aircraft. “Landmark’s Springfield Service Center did an excellent job of installing and integrating this complex medical package into our Hawker 800 and delivered the airplane on time and on budget. In light of that fact, it wasn’t difficult to decide where to complete the next aircraft.”

The Hawker 800 has been modified to provide both passenger and patient comfort with full critical care medical equipment, three independent oxygen systems, and a new satellite telemetry system that allows the receiving doctor to communicate in real time with the airplane to receive patient vital signs and information from the attending, on-board medical team.

Landmark has agreed to outfit another new AirMed Hawker 800 with virtually the same package during the first quarter of 2006. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

AirMed is a pioneer in the field of long distance air medical evacuation, providing services to the U.S. government, foreign embassies, and major medical centers across the U.S. AirMed’s service is available on a fee-for-flight basis or the annual AirMed Traveler membership program.

AirMed Traveler is the only U.S.-based membership program with worldwide Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Carrier operating authority, U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) approval and accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.

In addition to over 50 AirMed worldwide affiliate providers, AirMed operates the largest U.S.-registered, specialized (ICU equipped) aircraft. Unlike other air ambulance companies, AirMed utilizes in-house dispatching, flight operations, medical staff and customer service on a 24/7 basis every day of the year.
