In December 2022, StandardAero was announced as part of the team supporting Boom Supersonic in the design and development of the Symphony propulsion system for the Overture supersonic airliner. StandardAero joined the Symphony team as Boom’s strategic engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) partner, helping to ensure that the Symphony powerplant is designed for maintainability.
Boom’s collaboration with StandardAero aims to deliver reliable and economical operations, and the provision of maintenance services for the life of the aircraft. StandardAero brings to the Symphony team extensive experience assembling, integrating, testing and supporting supersonic jet engines, including the GE F100 and J85 and the P&W F100 and F135, plus an established reputation for providing commercial airline operators worldwide with reliable, responsive support.
StandardAero will work with Boom to prioritize ease of maintenance during the conceptual development, detailed design and production phases of Symphony, in order to deliver reliable and economical operations for the life of the aircraft. Symphony is expected to deliver a 25% increase in time on wing and significantly lower engine maintenance costs, reducing overall airplane operating costs for airline customers by 10%.
Boom Supersonic aims to revolutionize air transportation through the development of Overture, the world’s fastest airliner designed for speed, safety and sustainability, catering to both civil and government markets. Targeting certification in 2029, Overture will operate at twice the speed of current airliners and will be powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel.
We will continue to provide updates on the Symphony program as we help Boom Supersonic build a faster future.
